Senior Project Energy Engineer
Buffalo Solar Solutions is seeking a Senior Project Engineer – Energy to lead the technical preconstruction process for our commercial solar and battery energy storage projects. This is a leadership role responsible for directing teams, setting standards, and ensuring projects are engineered, permitted, and utility-ready the first time.
You will translate complex customer and project requirements into clear, buildable solutions while guiding engineering, interconnection, permitting, and site assessment teams from contract through Notice to Proceed (NTP). Success in this role means problems are prevented before they reach the field.
You will work closely with customers, Sales, Engineering, and Construction to align expectations, protect margin, reduce risk, and deliver technically sound, build-ready projects.
What You’ll Do
- Lead and oversee technical preconstruction across multiple projects simultaneously
- Direct engineering, interconnection, permitting, and site assessment teams
- Set clear requirements, timelines, and quality standards for all technical submissions
- Review, verify, and approve utility and AHJ applications prior to filing
- Ensure approvals are achieved efficiently and correctly on first submission whenever possible
- Interpret utility studies and drive required design or scope changes
- Coach and mentor team members through review cycles and evolving requirements
- Identify technical risks early and implement corrective action
- Deliver clean, coordinated, construction-ready project handoffs
What We’re Looking For
- Proven experience leading technical teams in project development or preconstruction
- Strong ownership mentality — accountable for quality, schedule, and readiness
- Hands-on interconnection and permitting experience through approval/PTO
- Ability to review PV/electrical designs for constructability and compliance
- Experience working directly with utilities, AHJs, fire departments, and engineers of record
- Comfortable managing multiple complex projects at once
Nice to Have:
Solar + battery (BESS) experience, NEC/fire code familiarity, NABCEP certification

Compensation: $95,000.00 - $105,000.00 per year
