Buffalo Solar Solutions is hiring a Technical Preconstruction Lead to ensure our commercial solar and energy storage projects are technically complete, correctly submitted, and ready to build before construction begins.
This role leads and oversees the engineering, interconnection, permitting, and site assessment efforts across multiple projects, ensuring applications are accurate the first time, requirements are clearly understood, and each project stays on schedule from contract through Notice to Proceed (NTP).
What You’ll Do
What You’ll Do
- Lead the technical preconstruction process from contract execution through Notice to Proceed (NTP) across multiple projects at once
- Direct and coordinate teams responsible for:
- Engineering design development and review
- Utility interconnection applications and studies
- Permitting and AHJ/fire department submissions
- Technical site assessments and constructability reviews
- Set clear technical requirements and timelines for each submission
- Review, verify, and approve applications and drawings before they are submitted externally
- Ensure interconnection and permit applications are complete and correct on first submission
- Interpret utility feasibility, impact, and facilities studies and define required design or scope changes
- Guide team members through evolving utility and AHJ requirements and reviewer comments
- Coach and train contributors so they understand what each application and submission requires
- Identify risks, missing information, and constructability issues early and drive corrective action
- Maintain technical schedules and keep multiple projects on track simultaneously
- Coordinate with third-party engineers of record and ensure stamped drawing packages meet requirements
- Deliver a clean, coordinated, build-ready technical package to Construction at NTP
What We’re Looking For
- Prior roles such as Interconnection Manager/Engineer, Preconstruction Engineer, Design Manager, or Technical Project Manager on energy or electrical infrastructure projects
- Experience submitting and managing interconnection and permitting packages through final approval/PTO
- Familiarity with feasibility, system impact, and facilities studies and translating results into actionable requirements
- Experience leading AHJ and fire department plan review cycles and responding to comments
- Experience working in design-build or EPC project environments
- Familiarity with incentive or grant applications requiring technical validation
- Experience with project scheduling and document control for technical submissions
- Experience coordinating external consultants and engineers of record
- Solar + battery (BESS) project experience
- NABCEP certification and familiarity with NEC and applicable fire/building code
Preferred (not required):
- Solar + battery (BESS) experience
- Familiarity with NEC and local fire/building codes impacting PV and storage
- NABCEP certification
Why This Role Matters
This role exists to prevent problems before they reach the field. Success means applications are approved on the first pass, utility and AHJ reviews move efficiently, risks are surfaced early, and construction receives projects that are truly ready to build.
You are the technical leader and quality gatekeeper for preconstruction.
